2023 Arizona Golf Association Mayan Palace Oktoberfest Weekend Wrap-up
The Arizona Golf Association (AGA) puts on some great events in state and out of the country! This past weekend we traveled down to Mexico along with five other couples for the 2023 Arizona Golf Association Mayan Palace Oktoberfest Weekend. Nicknamed “Arizona’s Beach”, Puerto Peñasco (Rocky Point) in Sonora, Mexico is the closest beach to Phoenix and perfect for short getaways.
We learned that the AGA has been putting on this event in one form or another for over 20 years! This annual event has become a favorite among members and is hosted several times a year, starting in March to celebrate Spring and then in October for Oktoberfest. Called “The Greatest Golf Tournament in the World” by our good friend Chad, the event is 36-holes of stroke play Four-Person Shamble and an awesome deal with a welcome reception, two rounds of golf, buffet lunches, free beer on the course (remember Chad?), team awards and lots prizes.
The crew all traveled down on Friday for a practice round and an amazing welcome reception put on by the AGA. Saturday was a jam packed day! Starting with the chipping contest at the clubhouse, we had a great first round on a calm beautiful day and ended the day tied for 2nd in our flight and 6th overall (net). The Mayan Palace put on a great lunch buffet which fueled us for a fun afternoon and evening by the pool and beach. The night was topped off with the Diamondbacks winning game 2 of the World Series. Sunday morning greeted us with 20+mph winds, which made it really interesting for the second round. Perhaps a little tired from playing Spikeball on the beach and winning the beach volleyball ‘tournament’ on Saturday night (Go Team Chicharrón!) so we ended up 5th for the tournament. Finishing off the event was another epic lunch, awards, and a lot of great raffle prizes!
We HIGHLY RECOMMEND this event! The AGA puts on a great event! All the staff at the Mayan Palace and Vidanta Golf Puerto Peñasco were so nice and great to be around. The chef and his team filled our bellies with delicious meals all weekend and the rooms and accommodations at the Mayan Palace offered so much value.
Thank you so much to our great friends, we had so much fun with you all this weekend! Next up is our Couples Putting Clinic.
