Playing Golf in Durango Colorado: Golf, Scenic Views, and Family Adventures with Mr. & Mrs. Golf
State #9 on our mission to golf in all 50 states took us to the breathtaking landscapes of Colorado. Nestled in the charming town of Durango, we found our perfect golfing destination at Dalton Ranch Golf Club. This wasn’t just a checkmark on our list—it was an unforgettable experience filled with spectacular scenery, delightful family moments, and a taste of Colorado’s unique charm.
State #9: Colorado – Dalton Ranch Golf Club

Our next stop took us to Durango, Colorado, where we played at Dalton Ranch Golf Club. Located just minutes from downtown Durango, this 18-hole American Links-style course is set against the stunning backdrop of the Animas Valley and the San Juan Mountains. Designed by Ken Dye and opened in 1993, Dalton Ranch offers a challenging yet enjoyable golfing experience.
Dalton Ranch Golf Club, surrounded by the dramatic red cliffs of the San Juan Mountains, provided a stunning backdrop for our rounds. As avid golfers, we couldn’t have asked for a more picturesque setting to represent Colorado. The course itself was in pristine condition, offering challenges and beauty at every turn.

The course features wide fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and water hazards that come into play on several holes. The elevation changes throughout the course provide both challenges and breathtaking views. The front nine offers a more traditional layout, while the back nine presents a more open and expansive design, allowing for a variety of shot-making opportunities.
The cooler mountain air made our rounds even more enjoyable, a refreshing change from some of the hotter states we’ve played in. We especially loved Hole 17, the club’s signature hole, which captured the essence of Dalton Ranch with its spectacular views.
The staff at Dalton Ranch were exceptional—welcoming, attentive, and professional from the moment we arrived. They made sure our experience was seamless and memorable, from the pro shop to the final hole. After our rounds, we enjoyed a delicious meal at The Clubhouse at Dalton Ranch, the club’s on-site restaurant. The service was top-notch, and the food was the perfect way to cap off a day of golf.
