Mr & Mrs Golf Playing Golf in Wisconsin – State #3
Embarking on a golfing journey across all 50 states is no small feat, but for us—”Mr. & Mrs. Golf”—it’s the adventure of a lifetime. What started as a love for the game has evolved into a mission to experience the diverse courses and landscapes this country has to offer, all while sharing our journey with fellow golf enthusiasts. Golf in Wisconsin, our third state, holds a special place in our story, thanks to its deep family ties and countless memorable vacations. Here’s a snapshot of our journey and a highlight from Wisconsin that you won’t want to miss.

The Beginning of the Journey
Our golfing adventure began with casual rounds on weekends, gradually expanding into vacations planned around notable courses. Fast forward to today, we’ve played over 100 rounds of golf across seven states and two countries. Along the way, we’ve been captivated by the unique character of each course, from the rolling fairways of the Midwest to the challenging greens abroad. Now, we’re turning our passion into a formal goal: playing golf together in all 50 states and as many countries as possible. We’re thrilled to share our experiences and invite recommendations for must-play courses. If you’re ever in the area, we’d love for you to join us for a round!
Why Golf in Wisconsin Was a Natural Stop
Wisconsin became our third state for a simple yet sentimental reason: Mrs. Golf’s family has a long history of visiting and vacationing there. The state’s charm lies in its lush landscapes, warm hospitality, and an impressive array of golf courses. Wisconsin’s reputation as a premier golf destination has grown significantly in recent years, and we couldn’t resist diving into its offerings. Among the highlights was a visit to Hawk’s View Golf Club, a gem nestled in Lake Geneva.
Lake Geneva holds even more significance for Mrs. Golf’s family. Her late uncle, who passed in 2020, had a deep love for the area and often enjoyed boating on its pristine waters. Some of the family’s fondest memories include summer days spent cruising Lake Geneva, a tradition that has added an emotional connection to our visits. Honoring those cherished moments made our time in Wisconsin even more meaningful.
The Greg Scheiner Memorial Golf Outing
One of the most special ways Mrs. Golf’s family has honored her late uncle’s memory is through the Greg Scheiner Memorial Golf Outing. This annual event celebrates his life and love for the Lake Geneva area while supporting a cause close to the family’s heart: the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. The outing brings together friends, family, and golf enthusiasts to play for a meaningful cause, blending camaraderie and charity on the course. It’s a touching reminder of how golf can unite people and make a positive impact.
Hawk’s View Golf Club: A Wisconsin Highlight
Hawk’s View Golf Club, located in the picturesque Lake Geneva area, is a golfer’s paradise. As one of the premier golf destinations in the state, it’s no surprise that it has been voted Lake Geneva’s Best Golf Course from 2020 to 2024. The club boasts two distinct courses: the championship-level Como Crossings and the family-friendly Barn Hollow.
Como Crossings: Championship-Level Excellence
Como Crossings, the 18-hole championship course at Hawk’s View, is a par-72 masterpiece spanning 7,074 yards. This course is a true test for golfers of all skill levels, with dramatic elevation changes, water hazards, and meticulously maintained greens. Each hole offers breathtaking views, and the strategic design ensures a challenging yet rewarding experience. From lush fairways to well-placed bunkers, Como Crossings combines beauty and difficulty in a way that leaves a lasting impression.
Barn Hollow: Fun for Everyone
For a more relaxed round or a family-friendly outing, Barn Hollow is the perfect choice. This par-3 course is designed for golfers of all ages and skill levels, making it an ideal setting for introducing new players to the game or sharpening short-game skills. Despite its approachable design, Barn Hollow maintains the same high standards as its championship counterpart, ensuring a quality experience for all.
Why Hawk’s View Stands Out
The appeal of Hawk’s View lies not only in its courses but also in its dedication to providing an exceptional golfing experience. The 5-star rated layout, combined with its welcoming atmosphere, makes it a standout destination. Whether you’re tackling the challenges of Como Crossings or enjoying a leisurely round at Barn Hollow, Hawk’s View ensures that every visit is memorable. The club’s stunning gallery of photos showcases its beauty and invites you to imagine yourself teeing off in this remarkable setting.
Exploring Kohler: A World-Class Golf Destination
Mr. Golf had the incredible opportunity to visit Kohler, Wisconsin, where he photographed a group of women, hosted by Tori Totlis (more about that here https://www.competeconfidencegolf.com/2024-creek-cup), playing at the renowned Whistling Straits. This destination is home to two exceptional courses: the Straits Course and the Irish Course. Known for hosting major championships, including the Ryder Cup, the Straits Course is a challenging yet awe-inspiring layout with sweeping views of Lake Michigan and rugged terrain that tests every golfer’s skill.
The Irish Course, while slightly more forgiving, offers its own unique charm with rolling hills, naturalized areas, and impeccable course conditions. Mr. Golf also had the chance to play and enjoy the Straits Course firsthand, describing it as a bucket-list experience for any golf enthusiast.
Kohler itself is much more than just a golf destination. It’s a luxury retreat that combines world-class golf with fine dining, spa experiences, and outdoor adventures. Whether you’re playing a round, relaxing at the Kohler Waters Spa, or exploring the scenic beauty of the area, Kohler offers something for everyone. It’s a must-visit for golfers and non-golfers alike.
Looking Ahead
State #2 was Illinois but as we continue our journey to play golf in all 50 states, we’re reminded of the incredible connections and experiences the game has brought us. Wisconsin’s Hawk’s View Golf Club and Kohler’s Whistling Straits are shining examples of why this mission is so rewarding. Each state brings its own flavor to the game, and we can’t wait to see what’s next.
